salt fired

atmospheric glazed wares fired in a gas salt kiln. cone 10 reduction.

salt is added to the kiln at a temperature hot enough to transform it from a solid straight to gas, about 2000*F. the cloud of sodium travels through the kiln, combining with the silica and alumina of clay bodies and glazes to create unique glazes.
